Десятилетний Бен живет на островном маяке вместе с отцом Конором и маленькой сестренкой Сиршей. Девочка все никак не заговорит, но зато обнаруживается, что она шелки, то есть принадлежит к народу людей-тюленей, как и исчезнувшая шесть лет назад мать.
