In a medieval setting, the series depicts the conflict between the kingdoms of Montemor and Artena. When the prince of Montemor abdicates the throne for his love for the Bulgarian Amália, his irresponsible brother, Afonso, succeeds him, giving rise to the never-ending clash between their kingdoms.
